Kimbia Sets May 6, 2014, As Date For First Online Nationwide Giving Day, “Give Local America”
AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 12, 2013) — Kimbia today announced that Tuesday, May 6, 2014, will be the date of the first nationwide online giving day, Give Local America. Organized by Kimbia and the Council on Foundations, the nation’s leading nonprofit association of grant making organizations, the event is expected to transform grassroots philanthropy in the United States by inspiring more people than ever before to give to community foundations and the nonprofits they support.
Foundations are registering to participate in Give Local America now, and the registration deadline is Oct. 31, 2013. Organizers anticipate that millions of dollars will be raised through simultaneous giving events occurring in local communities across the country. Donations received during this 24-hour period will be amplified with matching funds from a national pool that the Give Local America team is raising.
Give Local America is designed to take the success of match days to a national level by creating closer partnerships between community foundations and nonprofits, the Council on Foundations and Kimbia. Community foundations have raised up to $14.4 million with Kimbia-powered match days, and this level of success has spurred participation in Give Local America.
“Our first-ever charitable challenge far exceeded our expectations,” said Kali Baker, director of communications at the Omaha Community Foundation. “Omaha Gives generated tremendous community pride and surpassed all participation goals. Our foundation donors led the way by providing over $1 million through the event. We look forward to Give Local America and the continued momentum to support nonprofits. Every community foundation can benefit from this nationwide event.”
Give Local America aims to make it easy for community foundations to bring nonprofit partners to the table, plan online giving events and get the word out to their networks. The organizers’ goal is for every community foundation in America to participate in this nationwide project. To facilitate that, Give Local America took another step forward with the recent launch of its website, GiveLocalAmerica.org. The site is a resource for event information as well as webinars and other tools and best practices that community foundations can deploy to ensure that the match day is a success.
Registration for Give Local America is under way now. Leading community foundations newly signed on include the California Community Foundation, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Louisville.
Community foundations can sign up for Give Local America by visiting GiveLocalAmerica.org or calling Lori Finch at (512) 961-5615.
