The month of November saw two incredibly successful giving days hosted by two very different community foundations in different parts of the country. The brandraising associated with these events and the application of lessons learned enabled these institutions to raise 2X and 2.5X more money this year.
Nestled in the quaint yet hip community of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, The Lancaster County Community Foundation raised $3.2 million for local nonprofits during their November 22nd Extraordinary Give giving day – doubling the amount raised in the previous year . This is truly extraordinary considering previous year’s results “shocked” the community of only 500,000 people.
Going south to the tropical-urban setting of Miami, the Miami Foundation also raised $3.2 million during it’s November 21st Give Miami Day. This represented an increase of more than 2.5 times the initial $1.2 million raised during their debut giving day in December of 2012.
But if you think these represent just a couple of isolated events, consider the Communities Foundation of Texas, which on September 19, 2013 raised $25.2 million, 75% more than the $14.4 million raised in 2012, which was 35% more than they raised in 2011.
We hope these results will encourage more community foundations to launch giving day events, and continue building on their success year after year to maximize their help for deserving nonprofits and break some pretty incredible records.
